A dating app that stays off the record
Plenty of people in India want to meet someone without their family, colleagues or neighbours finding a dating profile. MuteMate is built for exactly that. This guide explains what the app does to keep things private — and where the limits are.
Why discretion matters here
Most dating apps are designed for people who are comfortable being found. Your name, your photos and sometimes your social accounts are laid out for anyone scrolling past. That works in some places. For many people in India it does not — a profile spotted by the wrong person can mean an awkward family conversation, gossip at work, or worse.
MuteMate starts from the other side. You share less to begin with, and the app is built so that what you do share is harder to copy, save or pass around.
What other members can and cannot see
- You sign in with Google, but your Google name and email address are never shown on your profile. You get a display name instead, and you can change it.
- MuteMate does not ask for access to your phone contacts, and there are no social accounts to connect.
- Your profile photos appear blurred to other people until they tap to see them, and they blur again when that person leaves the screen.
- Distance is shown as an approximate number. Nobody sees a pin on a map, an address or where you have been.
- There is no public feed, no followers and no likes that anyone else can see.
Photos that do not travel
Every photo sent in a chat on MuteMate is view-once. It arrives blurred, and once the other person opens it, it disappears for both of you about ten seconds later. The timer runs on our servers, so closing the app or pressing back does not bring the picture back.

Keeping contact details out of profiles
Your profile intro — called your Thirst — is checked for phone numbers, email addresses, links and social media handles, and the app blocks the ones it recognises. It is a safeguard rather than a guarantee, since a cleverly disguised number can slip through, but it stops most attempts to pull a conversation somewhere less safe before you are ready, and it keeps your own number off a profile by accident.
Verified real people
Being discreet is easier when you know who is on the other side. MuteMate uses a short live face check to confirm there is a real person behind a profile, and that they look like their photos. Leaving is simple
You can delete your account from Settings at any time. Your profile disappears straight away and your photos, messages and matches are erased. Indian law requires us to keep basic registration records for 180 days after an account is closed, after which they are deleted too. If there is an open safety report about an account, the records it concerns are kept until that report is resolved.
The honest limits
No app can stop someone photographing their screen with a second phone. Screenshot blocking works on Android only, because Apple gives apps no way to do it. And discretion works both ways: take your time before sharing your number, workplace or anything that identifies you.

Is MuteMate available in India?
Yes. MuteMate is launching in India first, on Android through Google Play. It is for adults aged 18 and over.
Will people know my real name?
No. You sign in with Google, but your Google name and email are never shown. Other members only see the display name on your profile, which you can change.
Can my contacts find me on MuteMate?
MuteMate does not ask for access to your phone contacts, and there is no contact matching or social account linking.
Is MuteMate free?
The app is free to download and use. Some extras, such as Premium search filters, message packs and a visibility boost, are paid, and every price is shown before you buy.
