Mute Date: meet first, see later
Swiping judges people on a photo in half a second. A Mute Date takes the photo away. You are paired with someone for a short, anonymous date, and you only move to a real chat if both of you want to.
How a Mute Date works, step by step

Start a search
Open the Mute Date tab and tap Start. MuteMate looks for someone who is searching at the same moment. The search runs for about a minute; if nobody is free, you can try again.

You are paired
When someone is found, the date begins. You will not see their photos or their name, and they will not see yours. Music plays for the length of the date.

Ninety seconds
A date lasts 90 seconds. Either of you can leave at any time, and leaving ends it for both of you.

Request and accept
The person who started searching first can send a match request. The other person decides whether to accept it.

A chat opens — or nothing happens
If the request is accepted, you are matched and a chat opens for both of you. If it is declined, or the time runs out, the date simply ends. No match is created and there is nothing to find afterwards.
Why date without photos?
Photos are the fastest way to rule someone out, and the easiest way to be recognised. Taking them away does two things. It gives people a chance they would not get on a swipe, and it means that simply trying Mute Date never shows your face to anyone.
If you do match, you can see each other’s profiles from the chat, the same as any other match.
Who you can be paired with
Mute Date pairs men and women. It skips anyone you have already matched with, and anyone either of you has blocked. It is not limited by distance, so your date could be in another city.
Women need to complete the face check before starting a Mute Date, so the person you are paired with is a verified real person. After a successful match there is a short break before you can start another.
Limits and plans
How many Mute Dates you can start in a day depends on your plan. The app shows what is available to you on the Mute Date tab before you start.
Questions people ask
Can the other person see my photo during a Mute Date?
No. A Mute Date shows no photos and no names on either side. Profiles only become visible if you both agree to match.
How long does a Mute Date last?
Ninety seconds. Either person can leave earlier, which ends the date for both.
What happens if I decline a match request?
The date ends. No match or chat is created, and the other person is not shown your profile.
Is there a voice or video call?
No. A Mute Date has no voice or video. Music plays while you decide whether you want to match.
