LGBTQ+ dating, privately
For many LGBTQ+ people in India, privacy is not a preference — it is a necessity. This guide explains how sexuality works on MuteMate, how to find the people you are looking for, and, honestly, what the app does not do yet.
Showing your sexuality
When you create your profile you choose your sexuality from Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual and Queer. It appears on your profile so the people you talk to know from the start.
Finding the people you are looking for
Your main feed shows people of a different gender to you. To choose who you see, use the search filters, which are part of Premium:
- “I like” lets you pick Men or Women. It shows profiles of that gender whose sexuality is not straight.
- “Sexuality” narrows that to one sexuality, such as Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual.
What the app does not do yet
We would rather tell you now than have you find out after installing. Without Premium, the feed shows people of a different gender only, so same-gender search needs a Premium plan. Mute Date and the Online Now list currently pair men and women only.
Privacy for people who are not out
- You sign in with Google, but your real name and email are never shown.
- Profile photos stay blurred until someone chooses to look, and blur again when they leave.
- Photos in chat are view-once and disappear about ten seconds after opening.
- On Android, screenshots and screen recordings are blocked inside the app.
- Distance is approximate. Nobody sees your location.
Safety
Reporting someone removes them from your feed and closes your chat straight away. If someone threatens to reveal your identity or sexuality, report them in the app and write to our Grievance Officer at support@mutemate.in. Meet new people in public places and let a friend know where you are.
Questions people ask
Can gay and lesbian users use MuteMate?
Yes. You can show your sexuality on your profile, and with Premium search filters you can choose the gender you want to see, filtered to people who are not straight.
Can I search for my own gender without Premium?
Not at the moment. Without Premium the main feed shows people of a different gender. Choosing a gender is a Premium search filter.
Does Mute Date work for same-gender dates?
Not yet. Mute Date currently pairs men and women only.
